Course summary
The HNC Applied Chemistry, is studied on a full-time basis. The course offers students a broad introduction to the subject area via mandatory core learning, while allowing for the acquisition of skills and experience through specialist pathways and the selection of optional units across a range of occupationally relevant subjects at Level 4. The course aims to give those with an interest in chemistry the practical and theoretical skills needed to progress in industry, developing technical competencies through a number of hands-on activities and experiments and the study of a selection of compulsory and optional units.

At Level 4 there are three core units, which includes one unit assessed by a Pearson-set assignment. The units are: • Fundamentals of Laboratory Techniques • Scientific Data Handling Approaches and Techniques • Regulation and Quality in the Applied Sciences The specialist modules include: Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Personal and Professional Development for Scientists
Assessment method
All students on the HNC Applied Chemistry will experience a variety of assessment methods, including both written and practical tasks. Specific examples include presentations, essays, reports, in-class tests and practical projects.
