Course summary

We have more than 120 postgraduate research students on full-time and part-time MPhil, PhD, and MDRes degrees with us at any one time. We recruit scientifically and medically qualified students into research programmes reflecting basic scientific advances in biology and medicine, in translational research and in that of an immediate clinical nature. Academic environment Our superb working environment in our open plan research facility in Whitechapel, as well as our Abernethy and Yvonne Carter buildings, allows you to benefit from interaction across the disciplines, fostering collaboration and sharing of knowledge. If working on a project with a clinical component, you may also spend time working in the neighbouring state-of-the-art Royal London Hospital. There is a wealth of symposia, seminars, lectures and talks held within the Institute and wider Queen Mary which you are encouraged to join, as well as our student forums which include social events, networking, help with research issues, and career events. Supporting your development You supervisor will support you with your research and help you to identify your development and training needs. As well as your research, you will participate in transferable skills training so that you will be prepared for the challenges of the job market. You will also receive support from our Director of Graduate Studies, Cleo Bishop, the Faculty Graduate Studies Committee and Queen Mary's Doctoral College.
