Course summary

Hospitality is among the growth industries across the world. Those with an interest in hospitality, catering and professional cookery will find the HNC/HND have great industry recognition. With so many types of careers available in this sector, qualifications can lead to some really exciting employment opportunities including cruise ships, hotels, event management, speciality bars and bistros just to name a few. Throughout the course you will develop relevant skills in the areas of cookery processes, food preparation, food hygiene and food service. Students will also gain excellent culinary skills and will participate in a range of internal and external catering events to allow them to perform in a real working situation. A period of work experience is an integral part of the course. Graduates from this course invariably go on to find employment, several work in Michelin standard restaurants.

Modules

You will study a range of subjects including modules such as Food Classification and Purchase; Food Hygiene Intermediate; Hospitality Supervision; Hospitality Financial and Control Systems; Production Cookery: Cold Kitchen; Production Cookery: Hot Kitchen; Sweets and Desserts. In addition there is the opportunity for Employment Experience where candidates will be provided with the opportunity to gain further experience in well known establishments, which could lead to full time employment. Students will also have the opportunity to achieve the Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate.
