Course summary

As a Digital and Technology Solutions graduate, you will have the option of progressing into careers such as cyber security analyst, data or systems analyst or engineer, IT consultant or technician, network or software engineer or web developer. Digital technologies are now a fundamental part of all sectors of commerce and industry. Underpinning this is the continual need to design and develop technological solutions to a broad range of ever-evolving problems. This encompasses a range of digital and communications based solutions centred on the acquisition, storage, manipulation, retrieval and dissemination of data. Every learner will have the opportunity to develop:

  • Web design and development skills in HTML, CSS and client-side scripting;
  • Systems analysis skills;
  • Database design and development skills within Microsoft Access and MYSQL/PHPMYDMIN;
  • Use of virtualisation technologies;
  • Network design and development skills – both local and business scale networks;
  • Network security and basic cybersecurity skills in protecting a business scale network;
  • Server side programming skills for e-commerce development.
The development and continued success of business is increasingly based on its ability to harness digital and technology solutions to develop and market new products and services, increase productivity and workflow, minimise costs, and protect itself from threats from various forms of cybercrime. This course will equip you with the skills you need to design and develop technological solutions to a broad range of ever-evolving problems. This includes the ability to manage and maintain large sets of data, as well as the application of advanced data analytics which rely on the application of artificial intelligence, and the fundamental digital skills required by employers in 2021 and beyond. University Centre Grimsby offers state-of-the-art workspaces, which are equipped with all of the latest technology, preparing you for a future in the digital industry. This course is designed to give you a tailor-made, modern qualification, which covers a range of skills and technologies to help you achieve your dream career or progress in your current employment. This course is primarily designed for face-to-face learning, with attendance during lessons for the specified hours within the validation document. However, there may be periods of study where the government advises TEC Partnership that it is not safe to open campuses, or there is limited access due to social distancing measures. If the campus is closed, TEC Partnership will deliver your sessions online and offer you the necessary support and resources remotely. If there is limited access due to social distancing measures a blended model will be adopted, with some lessons taking place in small groups and others using online sessions and support. We will make decisions on the delivery hours for each programme as government advice becomes clearer. For the placements in your programme, TEC Partnership will do everything it can to ensure you have the opportunity to complete the placement element of your programme and/or potentially, where possible, amend the programme, removing the requirement for placement (or part thereof) if required.

Assessment method

Assessment methods on this programme include practical projects, case studies, evaluations, planning and design documentation and reports.

The Institute will also encourage applications from non-traditional learners who lack formal academic qualifications. All such non-traditional applicants will be interviewed, set an appropriate piece of work (a research based written assignment investigating a current topic within the digital technologies sector), asked to provide evidence of relevant digital product development and a judgement made taking into account their academic potential and relevant experience.
