Become a qualified English as a Foreign Language teacher via the Trinity College London Certificate in TESOL, included with this course. How you learn: All our courses are designed around a set of key principles based on engaging you with the world, collaborating with others, challenging you to think in new ways, and providing you with a supportive environment in which you can thrive. During your studies, you'll work and collaborate with fellow students – developing skills in key areas including foreign languages, the systems and acquisition of language, and approaches to teaching English to speakers of other languages. You'll learn how to apply this to your classroom practice. Develop fluency in Spanish and a second foreign language (German or French from any level or Italian from scratch). You learn through:
  • lectures, seminars and workshops
  • studying abroad
  • work placements in schools, colleges or universities abroad
  • group work, research-based projects and presentations
  • teaching practice and observations where your newly acquired skills are applied
There are opportunities to study abroad at one of our partner universities with the possibility of funding through the Erasmus programme (subject to the UK’s continued participation in the Erasmus programme following the Brexit transition period). Applied learning - Work placements You’ll have the option of spending a total of 18 months abroad, including six months studying at one of our partner universities. This is followed by an optional teaching placement year in an overseas educational establishment in a Spanish-speaking country. This will not only help you to improve your language skills and develop your understanding of Spanish culture, but will provide exceptional real-world experience for your future career. As part of your Trinity TESOL certificate preparations, you’ll also undertake one-to-one and small group teaching activities to further prepare you for careers in education, training and other sectors. Live projects In addition to the optional placement year, you’ll undertake Highly Skilled Employment projects in each academic year, applying your learning alongside your language skills and working with education practitioners. You’ll also learn from the experiences of students from other undergraduate years, as part of our wider languages community at Sheffield Hallam. Networking opportunities We’re proud of our links with UK and international education establishments, and with our alumni. You’ll have numerous opportunities to network with them, including at our annual alumni event.
