Course summary
The Higher National Diploma Top-Up in Sport and Exercise Science (Coaching Science) builds on previous learning from the Level 4 Higher National Certificate. The one-year, full-time course is designed for those wishing to enter the field of sports coaching exercise science, and is geared towards a career in the fast growing sports industry. It builds on the relationship between theory and the practical application of sports coaching. A key part of the course is the application of theory which can be utilised throughout various coaching placements. Students gain valuable and practical experiences in areas such as performance analysis, talent identification, sports rehabilitation and the application of sports coaching, which makes this an exciting and worthwhile course.

Qualification requirements
It is expected that all applicants will hold relevant Level 2 maths and English qualifications equivalent to GCSE grade C/4 or above. Mature students: The University Centre welcomes applications from mature students who have relevant experience in lieu of the minimum entry requirements. Mature students (over 21) without formal qualifications may be accepted subject to satisfactory literacy and numeracy tests, work experience (if applicable) and a strong personal statement. Recognition of Prior Learning: Applicants may meet entry requirements through the process of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), which awards academic credits through recognition of prior learning via work and other life experiences. Recognition of Prior Learning is either certificated (RPCL) through formal assessment, or Experiential (RPEL) via skills and knowledge developed through work and voluntary activities.
