Course summary

This course is for individuals wishing to develop higher-level professional skills relevant to the construction and build environment sector. The purpose of BTEC Higher Nationals in Construction and The Built Environment is to develop students as professional, self-reflecting individuals able to meet the demands of employers in the construction and the built environment sector and adapt to a constantly changing world. The qualifications aim to widen access to higher education and enhance the career prospects of those who undertake them. This programme incorporates a combination of traditional classroom teaching, open learning and research based experiential learning, laboratory experiments and demonstrations, use of surveying equipment, industry standard IT applications and group activities. Many assignments are based around students' own work experiences. The course comprises mandatory and optional units. The mandatory units are: Level 4 (total 120 credits) Individual Project Construction Technology Science and Materials Construction Practice and Management Construction Information (Drawing, Detailing, Specification) Mathematics for Construction Principles of Structural Design Level 5 (total 120 credits) Group Project Further Mathematics for Construction Geotechnics and Soil Mechanics Advanced Structural Design Students will complete additional modules selected by the course team (1 at level 4 and 3 at Level 5) If you have any specific questions about this course, please contact Anna Hare - Course Leader HND Construction and the Built Environment (Civil Engineering), email: [email protected]

For International students we require evidence of proficiency in English (including writing, speaking, listening and reading), the required minimum is: IELTS Academic (SELT) 6.0 overall (minimum 5.5 in all components). Qualification requirements

You will need GCSE English and Mathematics (grade A-C or grade four and above) AND One of the following: • BTEC National Certificate or Diploma in construction or civil engineering • 2 relevant A Levels plus 4 GCSEs (Either grade A-C or grade four and above), including English and Mathematics • Access course with industrial experience • Extended Diploma in CBE. Minimum grades apply (please ask for details).
