Course summary
The MSc programme combines traditional lectures with group projects and an individual research project in the student's chosen specialist field. The Civil Engineering Graduate Diploma is a conversion programme enabling applicants with a degree in a related subject (for example mathematics, physics or geology) to take a qualifying year before moving on to a Civil or Structural Engineering MSc degree. By studying this programme, you have a unique opportunity to be awarded an accredited level 7 Civil Engineering MSc after just two years of study, opening up your career path to becoming a chartered civil engineer. Modular (flexible) students - Some postgraduate taught and MRes programmes are available on a modular basis. Modular study lasts between 2 and 5 years. This is different to a part-time study which lasts for a fixed period.
Entry requirements
A minimum of an upper second-class UK Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering or a closely related subject, or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard. Applicants with a good performance in the core subjects (design, structures, geotechnics, and fluids) or extensive work experience covering these areas may be considered. For non-civil or structural engineering candidates we offer a Graduate Diploma in Civil Engineering, recognised by our accrediting body (the Joint Board of Moderators), which can be used as a pre-qualifying year for the Civil Engineering MSc.
