Course summary

Our BSc (Hons) Architectural Technology (with Integrated International Foundation Year) is a four year course, specifically designed to provide international students with the English language and creative skills before they embark on year one of a degree. Becoming an Architectural Technologist requires specialist skills and confidence and on our new course at UCA Canterbury, you’ll gain this and more as you learn how to assist construction design teams bring new structures to life. You’ll learn a wide range of spatial practices, and the value an Architectural Technologist adds to architectural practice and society more widely. As well as having access to our extensive facilities, including advanced forms of fabrication and prototyping, the latest scanning and VR technology, and traditional crafts, you’ll also learn advanced forms of digital modelling and control, such as building information modelling (BIM), using these tools to develop your own individual approaches to challenges of building construction and detail. Along the way you’ll be guided by our team of academics and a wide range of industry professionals, and collaborative opportunities alongside students across our architecture and design courses will give you an enriched experience where specialised learning is combined with new perspectives and approaches to broaden your own horizons. Assessment method

For our students coming from a non-UK educational background, UCA has launched an Integrated International Foundation Year, based at UCA Farnham to bring students from around the world to one hub of creativity. This year of preparatory study is designed to give you the skills you’ll need to start your degree in the best possible way – with confidence, solid knowledge of creative practice, study skills and the English speaking and writing skills you’ll need to succeed. You’ll explore a range of creative techniques and develop your portfolio, with your chosen subject in mind. We’ll work with you throughout the year to ensure you’re on the right track and give you the tools to achieve your highest potential on your degree.

We require evidence of your English language ability to meet the requirements for your course. If you're a Home student and studied in the UK, we require GCSE English at a minimum grade C/4 (or Functional Skills English/Key Skills Communication Level 2). If you’re an EU student and studied a European qualification, we may accept the English Language score from your main qualification - please review your country from the list on our website to see whether we will accept it: https://www.uca.ac.uk/international-study/equivalent-qualifications/ If your qualification is not on this list, we accept the following English language qualifications: IELTS (overall score 6.0), TOEFL ibt (overall score 88), PEARSON PTE Academic (overall 55), Cambridge Proficiency Exam (overall score 169), Cambridge Advanced Exam (overall score 169). If you need a Tier 4 student visa to study in the UK, you will need to take an IELTS test, and achieve an overall score of 6.0 and a minimum score of 5.5 for each element (Listening, Reading, Speaking, Writing).
