Explore the theoretical understanding and practical application of education, combined with the core concepts of sociology, enabling you to develop your skills in conducting social research. You will study a range of important social issues and contemporary challenges as well as how professionals operate in the education sector, from policy making to teaching. Education and Sociology will help to equip you with valuable skills in communication and problem-solving, preparing you for a career in teaching or related fields. Why choose this course?

Education and Sociology at Keele explores the nature of learning including the core elements such as policy, teaching and practice, whilst providing insight into various aspects of the social world and how these areas influence the social challenges faced by individuals. On this combined honours programme, you will actively engage with discussions around various topics such as psychological, sociological and cultural influences in education, and consider how these may evolve in the future. You will explore key issues and challenges associated with teaching and learning at different levels, such as primary and secondary. In Sociology, you will explore topics such as ethnicity, class, migration, and feminism, and consider the historical explanations and developments for these areas in the contemporary world. You will investigate how these topics promote inclusion in society or create social divisions based on different opinions and experiences. This will encourage you to have an analytical approach to different theories and explanations and develop fair arguments based on data and your individual critical views.
