Course summary
This course is designed to provide a doctoral level education and professional qualification; a doctoral level research project is combined with a taught programme of modules and with counselling psychology practice in a range of placements; research, theory, personal development, professional development and practice are integrated in the concept of the reflective practitioner; students are required to combine personal history with explicit use of psychological theory in analysing the process of therapy and as a basis for mindful practice; the part-time route allows a combining training with employment, possibly within a psychology post.
Assessment method
We assess taught modules through coursework and assessment under controlled conditions. Practice assessment is through direct observation, case studies, process reports, supervision groups and placement reports. For your research, you submit a 30,000 - 40,000 word doctoral thesis of an original piece of research, examined by viva voce.

Entry requirements
Normally graduate basis for registration (GBR) with the British Psychological Society plus an upper 2nd Class or 2st Class degree and certificate in counselling skills.
