Course summary
Chichester College’s BA (Hons) Business Top-up Degree is accredited by University of Chichester. The programme provides the opportunity for Higher National Diploma and Foundation degree students to achieve their full degree at Chichester College, whilst working and/or balancing other commitments. The programme has been designed with employers and is based on current and future industry requirements to ensure graduates are well-rounded, have good business acumen and can apply learning to the rapidly changing business environment. As a result, there is strong focus on developing your practical application of theory to real business scenarios and building resilience in business environments. The programme provides optimal flexibility and varied teaching methods through a ‘blended learning’ approach. This involves teaching in small, interactive sessions, 1:1s and online resources. There is also independent learning through either a 10 week work placement, or setting up your own business, and an independent research project into a business topic of interest. Our focus is to help you develop a real understanding of business and provide you with a supportive ‘practice ground’ to progress your career.
Modules
The Business Top-up Degree is run as a modular programme over 1 year, divided by terms. Students are required to complete and pass four modules – three compulsory and one optional. The compulsory modules are business research, entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship, strategic management and managing operations. The optional modules are contemporary human resource management, global environment and project implementation. For the entrepreneurship and entrepreneurship modules, students will have the option of either going on 10 week work placement within an organisation, or setting up and implementing their own businesses.
Assessment method
The course uses a variety of assessment methods (report, professional discussion, presentation, portfolio and timed assessment) to ensure you graduate with well-rounded business skills and can apply theory in practice. Each module sets out the required assessment which usually consists of one to two assessment methods. The course is designed to be as flexible as possible to fit around your work and personal commitments. Taught interactive sessions will mostly take place on Tuesday (6pm- 9pm) and Wednesday evenings from 5pm-9pm. There are some flexibilities within the timetable to choose an option that is of most interest, or perhaps better fit your other commitments. Term 2 and 3 are focused on work placement, or setting up your own business and independent research.
