Course summary

The BA (Hons) Early Years Practice aims to reflect the common core of knowledge, skills, values and attitudes required by those working with young children in early years' settings, schools and other areas of children's services. In particular, the BA (Hons) (Top-up) aims to equip learners with the subject knowledge, understanding, characteristics and skills described in the QAA Early Childhood Studies Benchmark Statements (2014) and associated with the children's workforce. Covering a range of modules, including the early childhood professional, principles and pedagogy in early childhood and international perspectives in early childhood, this degree provides you with the opportunity to explore theoretical concepts in a research context and to apply the principles of informed evidence and ethical practice.

The Early Childhood Professional, Contemporary Issues in the Early Years, Dissertation, Principles and Pedagogy in Early Childhood, International Perspectives in Early Childhood.

Criminal records declaration (DBS/Disclosure Scotland)

All prospective students will be advised at the entry stage that they must undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check to assess their suitability for access to a range of early years careers. In the event of disclosure this must be discussed with the Programme Leader prior to entry who will then provide advice relating to placement and future employment criteria within the early years sector.

Interview

All suitably qualified applicants will be invited to attend an interview. This is designed to be an informal meeting, providing you with the opportunity to see if the degree is suitable for your needs. It will also offer the lecturing team the opportunity to discuss and view your career and placement interests.
