Students on this course will be taught with the aims of developing a diverse range of students with the skills, knowledge and insight to enable them to make a positive contribution to the care, well-being, development and support of the individuals, families and communities with whom they work. For those who are undertaking work in the care sector, the course aims to develop existing practice by extending their underpinning knowledge and understanding of the sector, through detailed examination of associated theories and concepts. Delivered at Grantham College, the course features a blend between classroom work-related learning. This approach embeds a mix of practice-based work which results in learning in the Health and Social Care setting, alongside structured learning at the institution. A variety of assessment methods are used including presentations, discussions, written assignments such as essays and reports and portfolios of work focused learning. Qualification requirements

A minimum of one year’s practical experience in an employed or voluntary capacity with a written statement of support from the head teacher/manager. Candidates should ideally hold a Diploma, NVQ or Access to HE qualification and a minimum of a Level 2 in English and maths although other qualifications will be considered and enthusiasm and experience are essential. Candidates should also hold or be willing to apply for a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate. Applicants must have access to a voluntary or paid role in a relevant setting for at least 12 hours a week throughout the course and have written support from the setting.
