Our Accelerated 2 year Business Studies degree will give you a great understanding of the many aspects of business so that you can use your knowledge upon graduation. You will study topics in Management and Organisation, as well as Accounting and Marketing – it’s this fuller understanding of how different aspects of business operate that will make you a world ready graduate. In an ever-changing world where businesses are facing new challenges and developing new technologies, economic models, and workplace practices, we need leaders. People who aren’t afraid to push the boundaries, test new ideas and innovate to build a better and more stable world. Your generation will provide the answers to the challenges we face today. The UA92 Business Management Accelerated degree is designed to prepare you to do so with innovation, intelligence, resilience, creativity and flair. Each academic year, in addition to your four subject modules, you’ll study an extra credit-bearing module, which focuses entirely on character and personal development. You’ll get to take on a real-life project, based on a live scenario, set by one of our industry partners. You’ll experience first-hand the current issues facing the industry, get the opportunity to apply your subject knowledge, challenge your perspectives, step outside your comfort zone and build key employability skills to prepare you for your future career. These experiences are instrumental in developing transferable skills and key competencies such as leadership, resilience and well-being, communication, problem-solving and team-working. To help you track your progress and further refine your developing skill-set, you’ll meet regularly with your own personal development coach throughout years 1 & 2.

Modules

Our industry-led approach means our leading partner organisations are integral to the UA92 experience; co-developing course curriculums and providing unique experiences for our students. The accelerated programme will consist of 12 modules studied across the 2 years. You will study 6 modules each year, studying modules at level 4 and 5 in year one, and levels 5 and 6 in year two. The specific level 5 modules will change according to your year of entry. Level 4 Subject Modules Management and Organisation You’ll study the business environment and impacts from the internal and external forces, the skills and attributes that organisations seek in the management of employees and historical and contemporary issues in managing organisations and those working within them. Economics for Business You'll study the basic principles of the Macro and Micro-environment, the effects of government intervention on the market and supply and demand and market outcomes. Introduction to Financial Accounting You'll gain an understanding of the basic principles and concepts of financial accounting, the elements that make up financial statements and how they are prepared. Marketing You’ll explore the current issues within the marketing discipline and take a look at the marketing industry within the private, public and voluntary sectors, as well as not-for-profit. Level 5 Subject Modules Global Perspective in Managing People and Organisations You’ll take a look at the key issues affecting the management of people in organisations in the global business environment, the impact of national institutions and systems on management policies and practices in different countries and the effect of globalisation on the management of people in organisations operating internationally. Business Ethics and Sustainability You’ll look at the implications of business ethics, corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainability within national and international organisations and examine different theoretical frameworks and paradigms to apply to a range of contemporary challenges. Operations Management You’ll study the Operations Management frameworks and techniques used to proactively develop strategies in order to design, plan, and control operations. You’ll look at how operational management is key to business success and explore ways to improve business performance. Digital Marketing You’ll learn to evaluate opportunities and challenges that impact the digital environment and the methods used to monitor and measure digital marketing effectively. You’ll critically assess the key issues in developing and implementing digital marketing strategy and explore how it differs across business sectors. Level 6 Subject Modules Contemporary Issues in Business Management You’ll develop an awareness of, and be able to respond to, global issues in order to make informed decisions. You’ll also examine issues relating to business management and consider how this influences the decision-making process. Enterprise and Innovation You’ll investigate business creation opportunities and learn how to utilise data from a variety of sources. You’ll gain knowledge of entrepreneurial concepts and key business functions in a practical setting and develop entrepreneurial know-how, through undertaking activities such as ideation. Strategic Leadership You’ll develop a critical understanding of the evolution of leadership theory, its function in contemporary business environments, the role and responsibilities of a business leader and the organisational principles that contribute to contemporary business leadership issues. Project You will complete a project, on an area of interest in business management, that demonstrates your research, problem-solving and use practical skills by performing an evaluation and communicating the results.

Assessment method

No traditional end-of-year exams* You are assessed within each subject module – so you learn it, then you prove it. Assessment methods include individual and group work which is undertaken in a range of formats related to your subject. This may include writing an essay or producing a report, presenting findings or creating audio/visual projects. Practical assessment is favoured where possible, for example, Media and Communication students producing a Podcast, or Sports Coaching students running a coaching session. You’ll have the opportunity to learn, develop and demonstrate a wide range of practical and applied skills and competencies. *For Accounting and Finance students you will sit some exams within your modules to obtain the necessary exemptions from the ACCA.
