Course summary

At UWS we offer three qualifications in career guidance and development. Completing our most popular course, the Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) in Career Guidance and Development, will support you to develop professional practice competence working with individuals and groups and to undertake critical analysis of key aspects of career guidance and development practice. A PGCert option is also available for students wishing to complete one year of part-time study only. Having completed the PGDip or an equivalent qualification at another institution, students can return to study our masters 'top-up' module to obtain a full MSc in Career Guidance and Development. Our masters route is focused on continuous professional development through practitioner-researcher skills, and supports students to take the opportunity to promote their work within the sector. PRE-ENTRY COURSE Applicants may be keen to refresh or gain confidence in their postgraduate level academic skills prior to starting the programme. We offer a pre-entry course for offer holders on the Postgraduate Diploma in Career Guidance and Development.

Entry requirements

Applicants to the full-time PGDip/QCD should normally hold an honours degree in any subject. Applicants to the part-time, online PG Dip/QCD may hold a relevant bachelors degree or equivalent (e.g. a Level 9 Technical Apprenticeship) and significant, relevant work experience. The programme team is committed to improving diversity in the career development sector. We encourage applications regardless of age, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, belief or race. We particularly welcome applications from individuals who are underrepresented in our sector; people from an ethnic minority background, disabled people and applicants who identify as male, trans or non-binary. Applicants who wish to complete the PG Cert or PG Diploma online must normally be employed for the duration of their programme in a guidance related role where they have access to clients and to a QCD accredited professional willing to act as their workplace supervisor. Applicants who wish to complete the PG Cert online must normally be employed in a guidance-related role. Applicants will have to provide an appropriate reference confirming their suitability for work with individuals and groups in helping and teaching contexts.
