Course overview

  • There’s a wealth of career opportunities available within the traditional and future oil industry. On our Oil and Gas Engineering programme you’ll learn to maximise hydrocarbon recovery at a minimum cost, whilst reducing the environmental impacts.
  • You’ll learn to solve future tasks and challenges related to the development and production of oil and gas fields. You’ll be led by our staff who have specialised in the discipline of oil and gas, fire science and energy for many years.
  • Studying at this level requires a high mental capacity, self-motivation and commitment to achieve this award.
  • Our teaching methods include lectures, seminars, workshops, laboratory work, project work, case studies and site visits. Personal study also forms an integral part of our course.

Further information
  • You’ll have an opportunity to undertake a professional placement as part of this course. This will extend your study time by six to twelve months depending on the length of the placement. Alternatively, there are opportunities to choose an industry-based project.
  • You’ll be responsible for finding your own placement. We’ll support you in preparation for this with our teams who can help you plan and develop your CV and applications and undertake practice interviews.

International applicants

This course has a subject classification which requires students whose nationality is outside the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland to have an ATAS certificate, irrespective of country of residence at the point of application.

Entry requirements

One of the following qualifications is required: honours degree of the level 2.1 or above from a UK university or the CNAA or its equivalent in an appropriate discipline(petroleum (oil & gas) engineering, chemical engineering, fire engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, chemistry etc); degree or HND in an appropriate discipline, together with appropriate professional experience; a qualification or experience deemed to be equivalent to any of the above; overseas equivalent qualifications and English IELTS 6.5 or equivalent if English is not the first language.
