Course summary

The UK film and screen industry reaches across streaming, television, film and social media. On our BA Film Production course, you will learn what goes into developing one of the largest and most successful industries in the world. You will gain the skills and knowledge to explore your creative endeavours and forge an exciting career behind the camera. You’ll study alongside some of the best film academics in the UK as you learn practical film production skills and the theory involved in audio-visual media that will help support your storytelling. This course will allow you to explore the core competencies of producing film including screenwriting, cinematography, editing and post-production whilst sharpening your skills in critical analysis and research of the industry. With an emphasis on the interdisciplinary approaches to digital film and storytelling, you will be encouraged to expand upon your creative ideas through practice-focused modules, workshops and technical demonstrations. Your studies will take place in our digital media centre, one of the newest buildings on campus which is home to state-of-the-art industry-level studio, editing and digital resources. The 2000 metre-square modern building offering excellent facilities, including two newsrooms that replicate real working environments, a film studio with state-of-the-art technology and equipment, and extensive resources for sound editing and production, including radio and podcasting. The new facilities were developed in conjunction with leading specialists to ensure that students will receive industry-standard experiences. The building includes spaces for individual and group work, interactive and collaborative projects, as well as quiet study spaces for students. This course is designed with your future employability in mind, throughout the course you will work on live briefs supplied by our industry partners and a dedicated work placement module will help put what you’ve learnt into practice and gain practical experience to enhance your CV.
