Course summary

Prepare for a career in Sports Coaching and help people achieve their potential. This course challenges and supports your development, providing you with an environment to develop your coaching skills and understanding of an array of professional settings within both performance and participation roles. Most of this one year Certificate of Higher Education course is practical based, learning through coaching and lab practical’s, fieldwork, and placements. Giving you the opportunity to hone your skills as a practitioner and continuously improve your approach to coaching. The Certificate of Higher Education is the first year of the Degree and will allow you to experience university-level study, that is the first year of a degree, gaining both subject knowledge and developing personally through UA92’s Target Talent Curriculum. It is taught along with all the other first year degree students and there is no difference in content or teaching. Upon successful completion of the course, you simply complete a very short internal application and move directly onto the second year of the full degree programme at UA92. This means you would have completed a full degree in the same amount of time as degree students. Alternatively, should you wish, you can leave with a Certificate in Higher Education after your one year with us. Applied social learning is a key ingredient of the course, allowing you to develop teamwork and problem-solving skills. The course will navigate core disciplines familiar to Sports Coaching as well as exploring the key sectors in which sports coaches operate within, including schools, sports and physical activity settings, governing bodies of sports and professional sports organisations. You will be provided with an extensive network around you of highly experienced coaches and academics within the field to help support your journey to becoming a confident practitioner. Your sessions will be located on our Trafford campus as well as other specialist sites. The course will also provide you with access to specialist sports equipment and digital platforms including performance analysis software. Your UA92 degree goes far beyond the traditional academic experience. Each academic year, in addition to your four subject modules, you’ll study an extra credit-bearing module, which focuses entirely on character and personal development. You’ll get to take on a real-life project, based on a live scenario, set by one of our industry partners. You’ll experience first-hand the current issues facing the industry, get the opportunity to apply your subject knowledge, challenge your perspectives, step outside your comfort zone and build key employability skills to prepare you for your future career. These experiences are instrumental in developing transferable skills and key competencies such as leadership, resilience and well-being, communication, problem-solving and team-working. To help you track your progress and further refine your developing skill-set, you’ll meet regularly with your own personal development coach throughout years 1 & 2.
