Course summary
What motivates our behaviours and choices? How do we define ethical behaviour in commerce? How do concepts of social justice influence economic policy? Our BA Philosophy, Politics and Economics degree will help you answer questions like this through the philosophical analysis of political issues and economic phenomena. You will study microeconomics and macroeconomics, political theory and global politics, as well as core aspects of philosophy like reasoning, logic and ethics. You can tailor your studies to your career aspirations through optional modules that allow you to specialise in areas such as behavioural economics, social philosophy, and parliamentary studies. You can also enhance your CV by studying abroad in locations like Australia or Canada. You will graduate with a distinct skillset and all the knowledge, practical skills and confidence you need to stand out to employers as you start your career.
Modules
In your first year, you will take modules across each discipline. 40 of your credits will come from economics modules, covering core microeconomics, macroeconomics, and also mathematics and statistics. These modules provide a foundation in all the key areas of economics, and allow you to take a wide selection of economics and econometrics modules in your subsequent years. Second-year studies involve modules from across each discipline with more choice of optional modules. In your final year, you can take either 40 credits of politics, philosophy and economics modules, or 60 credits of modules from any two of these disciplines.

We welcome applications from students without A level mathematics. Offers to students without A level mathematics are delayed until the point we have received all applications to our programmes. In the past, all students without A level mathematics (who are predicted to make our entry tariff) have received an offer.
