Course summary
The BA (Hons) Interior Architecture and Design degree at Lincoln takes a multidisciplinary approach that positions the subject between the academically rigorous profession of architecture and the fast-paced world of contemporary visual culture and design. On this degree, students will have the opportunity to develop practical design knowledge in specialist studios, learning from staff who are active both professionally and as researchers. Students learn about the disciplines within the design industry and building technology methods, whilst developing their own creative, individual style. Modules
Three-dimensional thinking is the focus of the first year of the degree and this is explored through a variety of media. Students will have the opportunity to learn how the design process works and begin to practise the skills of planning and modelling. The history and theory of architecture and design are also examined, providing students with the chance to contextualise their practice with a solid theoretical understanding of the subject. In the second year, students are introduced to the concept of social relationships and the responsibilities that face interior architects. Students are expected to complete a comprehensive individual project in an area of personal interest in their third year, providing them with the chance to demonstrate the skills they have acquired as a designer. Professional practice is emphasised at this stage, aiming to ensure that students are ready to enter the industry when they graduate. Some programmes provide you with the opportunity to focus your study in a particular area through optional modules. Timetabling arrangements may limit the availability of some optional modules to some students. As the options often reflect staff research interests, they may alter over time due to staff availability.
Assessment method
The way students will be assessed on this course will vary for each module. It could include coursework, such as a dissertation or essay, written and practical exams, portfolio development, group work or presentations to name some examples. Throughout this degree, students may receive tuition from professors, senior lecturers, lecturers, researchers, practitioners, visiting experts or technicians, and they may be supported in their learning by other students.
