Course summary
Throughout history, the skills required to settle conflicts and broker agreements have been highly sought after. Our LLM International Disputes Law will investigate the international litigation process and alternative forms of dispute resolution such as mediation and arbitration. You’ll explore theoretical and practical opportunities that hold real value in the commercial and non-commercial world. The programme will provide a strong understanding of international disputes, with a particular focus on the position of the UK as a centre for resolving such disputes. The programme will cover both theoretical and practical perspectives, to enable you to develop the knowledge and skills linked to this field that are in demand with employers around the world. The programme prepares you for a career in the challenging and dynamic field of global disputes.
Modules
You follow a modular programme (180 credits in total), which comprises six taught modules (20 credits each) and a dissertation of 15,000 words (60 credits); the latter to be submitted at the end of the year of study. Students following the LLM International Disputes Law pathway study one compulsory module, Introduction to Legal Research, plus a minimum of three of their five optional modules from a specific selection that has typically included: Commercial Conflicts of Laws; International Trade Law and Policy; Intellectual Property Law; International Dispute Resolution; Public International Law; Law, Society and Governance
Entry requirements
Applicants should have a good Honours degree in law, or a degree in another discipline augmented with a pass in the Common Professional Examination.
