Biomedical Science is the integrative scientific study of biological issues related to the support of the diagnosis and treatment of various conditions that affect people's quality of life and it is a well-recognised, evidence inform and valued profession that encompasses a holistic and life-span approach to the provision of diagnostic, assessment and intervention. This course will explore the theoretical and practical aspects of Clinical Microbiology within the context of the diagnostic and investigative discipline of Biomedical Science using a blended and integrated learning approach that utilises a mix of on-campus teaching and online learning approaches. Modules

The curriculum has been designed to be multi-disciplinary in nature to be reflective and supportive of the exploration of biomedical science within your chosen specialist field of practice – Clinical Microbiology. In addition to a profession-specific input, a flexible learning design will be adopted encompassing specialised training, personal and professional development, diagnostic and assessment-related knowledge, aspects involving lived experience of patients, service planning and evaluation, research-informed practice, policy and standards of proficiency, governance, and quality management strategies. Furthermore, this will incorporate the principles of reflection, problem-based learning, and evidence-based practice. The MSc Biomedical Science course(s) will share 80 Credits of core modules with all other specialism courses that will ensure all Postgraduate Biomedical Science students are provided with an interdisciplinary as well as a multidisciplinary learning experience that would be reflective of the intersectionality of Biomedical Science; whilst allowing students to progress their principle scientific knowledge into its application within a specialist subject area of biomedical science.


Entry requirements

The following are the entry requirements required to be offered a place on the courses: A minimum of a 2:2 BSc (Hons) degree in a related subject, such as: Medical Science / Health Science Chemistry / Biochemistry Genetics / Medical Genetics Human Biology / Physiology Clinical Science Fast track applications are available for Swansea University Undergraduates. Applications as part of widening access to Higher Education will be considered on a case-by-case basis and applicants will be expected to outline their prior experiential learning over a minimum of 3years within their application’s personal statement.
