Course summary

The two year accelerated BA (Hons) in Marketing & Communications offers a comprehensive and in-depth insight into the many different aspects of marketing in the fashion industry. You will graduate with the skills and knowledge to ensure your success in a future marketing role within the fashion industry. Marketing is an integral function in all fashion businesses, interpreting data to understand a company’s customers and competitors, which helps to inform what products are designed, produced, communicated and sold. This is an exciting time to study Marketing; the growth of online, social media and customer insight has led to growing importance of the role of Marketing and the range of roles that exist within it. Working in an industry that is undergoing such a fast pace of change requires graduates with cutting edge knowledge of digital developments. You will be introduced to the theory that underpins Marketing principles and strategies supported with application to real life industry scenarios. An ability to communicate is key for marketeers. You will develop the technical skills and aesthetic understanding to ensure you can produce, communicate and implement an effective and unique marketing proposition. To achieve this you will study specialist modules in Marketing Fundamentals, Creative Digital Skills, Visual Communications, Promotions, PR and Communication, and Digital and Social Media. The BA( Hons) Marketing & Communications in fashion degree is ideal if you want to work in the fashion industry and have the opportunity to identify opportunities and maximise them at a profit. You will need to use your creative and analytical skills side by side to think tenaciously and problem solve, often under the pressure of a tight deadline. As the range of roles is developing students with a wide range of interests can succeed in fashion Marketing and this type of career particularly suits students who like a dynamic, fast paced environment and working under pressure. . The course also includes the FRA unique experience:

  • Unique two year condensed delivery
  • Live Industry Projects, led by employers, to build your experience and portfolio.
  • A three-week industry experience each year with one of the 140 fashion retail brand partners working with the FRA – to provide hands on practical experience of different roles and gain industry contacts & experience
  • Industry Mentor throughout your course
  • Course taught by experienced fashion retail industry professionals
You will study for three trimesters during the academic year between September and the following August (12 weeks in each) instead of the standard two. The two year programme means you will only pay fees and living costs for two years rather than the standard three. *Subject to meeting the expected levels of attendance in accordance with FRA’s Attendance Monitoring Policy. This course is due to be re-validated during the academic year 2020/21, so course content might change to align with current business needs to enhance employability on graduation.

Delivered in an accelerated model over 2 years, you will utilise the summer period to study over three study blocks instead of two. The structure of this course has been designed around study at Level 4 (developing foundational knowledge and awareness), Level 5 (high levels skills development and synthesis of information) and Level 6 (your launch pad for your career. Common Modules which are taught across each degree include:

Marketing & Communications Core Modules are: MARKETING FUNDAMENTALS As the title of this module suggests, you are given an insight in what is involved in the marketing of a modern omni-channelled fashion brand, looking at both on and offline marketing techniques and strategies. CREATIVE DIGITAL SKILLS This module will introduce you to some of the industry’s processes and tools used to create digital products, whilst enabling you to see the bigger picture and explore how value is created in the digital world. VISUAL COMMUNICATIONS An insight into how written and visual content play an essential role in the success of a contemporary fashion brand. The importance of relaying a brand’s message in a concise fashion, which is directed in an appropriate manner for a particular target demographic. PROMOTIONS, PR AND COMMUNICATION You will learn to analyse and identify audiences and how to examine the significance and responsibilities of public relations in the contemporary fashion industry from high-end luxury to the high-street, from in-house through to external agencies and how to converse with the consumer through the media. MARKETING: DIGITAL AND SOCIAL MEDIA Within this module you will examine how, through the digital revolution, the online element of marketing tactics are playing an ever increasingly important role in the successful promotion of a brand through the digital strategy it implements, not just currently but into the future. CAREER OPPORTUNITIES In-house or agency Public Relations, Marketing, Social Media, Digital Marketing, Event Management, SEO and PPC engagement.

We regret that this course is not available to international (non-EU) applicants who would require a Tier 4 Student Visa at this time. If English is not your first language, you will need to demonstrate English language skills that are sufficiently developed for successful completion of your studies. We accept a range of recognised English language qualifications that are equivalent to the International English Language Testing system (IELTS) Academic minimum score of 6.0 overall, with a minimum of 5.5 in Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening
