Course summary

Computing science is the study of the theory, experimentation, and engineering used in the design and use of computers. The rapid adoption of digital technology has increased the demand for highly skilled professionals with a thorough understanding of key computing technologies, combined with the practical skills to solve software issues. This course will introduce you to the core fundamentals that underpin computing science. You will explore the importance of IT security, and the risks posed to computer systems globally. You will also begin building your knowledge and understanding of computer hardware and web development, covering programming concepts with a deeper investigation of algorithms and the importance of data security in today’s world. The varied computing science industry means that upon graduation, you could expand into several specialist areas. Possible career paths include mobile and software application development, video game designing, database administration, web development, network and computer systems administration and IT security. This Higher National Diploma (HND) follows the curriculum for Years 1 and 2 of the Computing Science BSc (Hons) degree course. Qualification requirements

All applications are considered on an individual basis and the whole application is reviewed which includes previous and predicted qualifications, experience, reference and your motivation to study the course. The University also accepts the BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate/BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma and BTEC Level 3 National Diploma/BTEC Level 3 Diploma for entry onto degree programmes, provided that they are studied in combination with other qualifications that are equivalent to three A2 Levels. This may include subject specific requirements where necessary.
