Course summary

Renewable Energy Enterprise and Management (REEM) is a unique multi-disciplinary course blending appropriate project evaluation techniques and business enterprise with awareness of the potential of renewable energy technologies. This MSc is designed for both practising professionals and graduates in a diverse range of disciplines including: geography planning surveying business economics social policy politics product design industrial management environmental management physical or earth science The course supports those without prior technical education in energy who want to apply management, planning or business skills in expanding renewable energy developments. The main focus is developing your enterprise, culture and capability. We support and require you to be innovative in order to address some of the biggest challenges in the sector, or to seek out opportunities for new products and services. Sustainability is one of our three key societal themes at Newcastle University. A great advantage of this MSc is that modules and projects are led by staff from across our Faculty of Science, Agriculture and Engineering, enabling you to get involved in, and build on our many strong research teams. Delivery: We have a multidisciplinary approach to teaching and you will engage with students and academics across a range of disciplines. This offers a rich and diverse learning experience. Teaching methods on this course typically consist of: lectures seminars industry guest lectures practical sessions group work personal supervision Our modules are taught by block delivery, allowing you to immerse themselves and understand the subject in more depth. There is a strong emphasis on the development of research and autonomous study skills, preparing you for a future career in a rapidly evolving environment. Facilities: Throughout your degree you'll have access to a range of dedicated specialist facilities in the School of Engineering and across campus to enhance your learning experience. Our renewable energy courses draw on staff and facilities from across the whole Faculty including the Sir Joseph Swan Centre for Energy Research. As a leading Russell Group research university you will benefit from some of the UK's leading research facilities, including: a demonstrator digester plant at our Cockle Park Farm a wind-wave-current testing tunnel a number of specialist research centres well-equipped teaching laboratories

Entry requirements

A 2:2 honours degree, or international equivalent, in a relevant subject such as: geography planning surveying business economics social policy politics product design industrial management environmental management physical or earth sciences You do not need prior engineering or physical science education or experience. If you don't have this, you must be prepared to learn about the science of energy. This includes appreciating how renewable energy technology interacts with economic, environmental, social, political and business issues. We will also consider your application on an individual basis if you have lower or non-standard qualifications and significant, relevant industry experience. International Students To study this course you need to meet our Band 2 English Language requirements: Direct Entry : IELTS 6.5 overall (with a minimum of 5.5 in all sub-skills) If you have lower English Language scores, you may be accepted onto a pre-sessional English course. Our typical English Language requirements are listed as IELTS scores but we also accept a wide range of English Language tests.
