Course summary

Designed by one of the UK’s leading Operations and Supply Chain Management research groups, this programme is also accredited by the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS, subject to renewal). and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport UK (CILT). The programme is aimed at graduates in management, engineering and science, practising operations professionals and non-sector professionals who wish to increase their understanding of operations and supply chain management. The programme provides a theoretical and practical exposition of the factors that are necessary for effective operations and supply management in today’s global and highly competitive markets. In addition, it demonstrates how successful operations performance can shape and influence the sales and profit ambition of a business. You will develop a profound understanding of the processes and techniques for developing operations strategy and managing operations and supply chain activities. You’ll gain:

  • The opportunity to apply your knowledge by undertaking a work base project which is undertaken in conjunction with industry. Recent projects have been undertaken in collaboration with organisations including Bibby Distribution, Corus, Ford Motor Company, Hewlett Packard and Jaguar Land Rover. ‌

Modules

The programme is delivered over 12-months (or 24-months part-time) and consists of six compulsory modules and two optional modules followed by a project carried out over the summer on completion of Semester 2. Students are required to complete 180 credits to achieve a full MSc. During the summer semester, which follows the second semester examinations at the end of May and lasts for 14 weeks, students will take either Business Simulation and Analysis (EBUS635) or MSc Project (EBUS621). By taking EBUS635 in the Summer Semester, students will understand and have practical appreciation of contemporary management challenges within a view of Supply Chain Management, Project Management, Enterprise Management, and Big Data. Understand the means by which benchmarking and comparative performance assessment can be undertaken. Have a practical understanding of the importance of teamwork and communication. Appreciate the need for competence in operations management and be aware of its impact on business performance. Be more accomplished autonomous learners and be able to better manage their own learning experiences. By taking EBUS621 in the Summer Semester, students can select projects from a list provided by the teaching staff. The projects are related to a specific industrial or research-related issue with which staff are involved in. Projects are usually, though not always, linked to placements. They are expected to be an original piece of work professionally presented as a piece of academic writing of approximately 12,000-15,000 words long. Projects are expected to combine aspects of theory with a study of their practical application to operations and supply chain management.

Entry requirements

The University of Liverpool Management School continues to welcome applications that fulfil our admissions criteria in order to select a balanced international student cohort. However in order to maintain the high quality of student experience, programmes will stop accepting new applications from certain countries once the number of offers from these countries exceed the target. As students from different countries tend to apply at different points in the application period, applications from some countries may close earlier in the year. In these cases we will aim to provide a 3-week notice period to the affected country, prior to any programme closure. Normally a university degree in Management, Engineering, Mathematics, Science or related disciplines at 2:1 standard from a UK university, or an equivalent academic qualification from a similar non-UK institution is required. Non-graduates with very extensive professional experience and/or other prior qualifications may also be considered. All candidates must meet our required level of English.
