Course summary

Global commercial transactions are becoming more complex, posing new legal challenges. On this course, you’ll:

  • look at the law in a commercial setting
  • learn to resolve business disputes between or among transnational parties through the use of arbitrators and through courts
  • explore the legal framework governing commercial activities and cross-border transactions
  • develop the practical skills needed to act as a legal adviser during international commercial transactions
  • learn to assess cutting-edge scenarios and recent reforms in international commercial law.
  • This course is ideal if you’re already a legal practitioner or in business and wish to gain an understanding of the legal context for international business deals. It’s also suitable for anyone preparing for further research in this area.
Throughout your studies, you’ll have the opportunity to network with professionals, practitioners and activists from around the world. These networks will also be valuable after you graduate.

Options Alongside your core modules, you can choose options to broaden your horizons and tailor your course to your interests. While it’s our aim for students to take their preferred combinations of options, this can’t be guaranteed and will be subject to timetabling. We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2023/24. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to COVID-19, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum. We’ll make sure to let our applicants know of material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity. We’ll do our best to provide as much optional choice as we can, but timetabling constraints mean it may not be possible to take some module combinations. The structure of a small number of courses means that the order of modules or the streams you choose may determine whether modules are core or optional. This means that your core modules or options may differ from what’s shown below.


Entry requirements

You should normally have an upper second-class (2.1) undergraduate honours degree or above. Your qualification should be in law. In exceptional cases, you may be considered for the course if you have other professional qualifications or experience of equivalent standing.
