Are you looking for a career in project management in the construction industry? Do you want to develop the skills needed to plan and manage building projects from initiation to completion? This course, developed alongside employers in the sector, is designed to equip you with the essential skills and knowledge to project or programme manage the full range of commercial and domestic construction projects. You’ll learn how to plan projects, from initiation through to completion, covering aspects such as the allocation of resources, risk and people management. Throughout your studies, you’ll gain a comprehensive understanding of the core principles and practices of construction project management, including sustainability, financial management, procurement, leadership and commercial practice. You’ll explore the role of construction project managers and the tools and techniques used to oversee the entire process of new building projects; from meeting with the client to discuss the initial plans, hiring a team and managing building legislation to managing the project budget, liaising with the client and overseeing the construction team. Professional work placements and employer projects are integral to your degree and allow you to gain valuable experience, build your employability skills and develop contacts in the sector. By the time you graduate, you’ll have been able to develop the necessary skills required for your career as a built environment professional. Professional work placements You’ll have the opportunity to be involved in developing and delivering various construction projects working with employers across the construction and the built environment sector, including public and private sector contractors and construction companies. Graduate opportunities Potential career routes may include planner for construction clients; construction project manager delivering site-based management roles; site manager; or consultant advising clients on various aspects of building projects.
