Make a real difference to people’s lives by supporting others in their time of need. This new Health, Wellbeing and Social Care degree will help open the door to a rewarding career meeting the needs of others in our society. As more emphasis is placed on health promotion in our society, there is an ever-increasing demand for qualified health and social care practitioners. The recent COVID pandemic has sharply focused attention on the importance of good-quality community health care provision. This programme is currently subject to validation with a first intake planned for September 2023. About the course Students will develop an understanding of the theory underpinning care practice, to enhance the quality of care provided for clients either in work or on placement. The curriculum will be strongly influenced by the principles of wellbeing and prevention and the precept that an individual client, their family, and/or carer must be informed and empowered to make decisions relating to their care. Entry requirements • 48 UCAS tariff points from a Level 3 qualification or equivalent in a health related subject (including a relevant T Level). • You are required to have GCSE passes at a minimum grade 4 (formerly grade C) or equivalent in English and Mathematics. • Related work experience is preferable but not essential. • Acceptance is conditional upon a successful Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS check) and interview. Applicants who have already achieved (or expect to pass) a full Level 5 (such as an HND or Foundation Degree) in a relevant subject area can apply for direct entry to Year 3 (Level 6). Level 4 (Year 1) -academic study skills -introducing law, policy and ethical practice -professional principles and values -introducing theory and practice in Health and Social Care -human behaviour and development -introducing Sociology Level 5 (Year 2) -an introduction to contemporary social issues -safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults -providing holistic assessments and person-centred care -global thinking in Health and Social Care – 21st Century -fundamentals of individual and team leadership – from theory to practice -Health, Social Care and community development Level 6 (Year 3) -the study of life sciences -understanding Eastern and Western philosophy witihin HSC and Wellbeing – learning from indigenous people -the art and science of human transformation -the reflective practitioner in Health and Social Care -research studies Assessments A combination of traditional and innovative methods are utilised such as: projects, presentations, industry work experience and individual or group assignments. Examinations will be a mixture of timed open and closed-book tasks. Qualification awarded: Level 6 Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Health, Social Care and Wellbeing (subject to validation) Bursaries We want our courses to be accessible to students from any background, so we’ve put together a cash support package in the form of non-repayable bursaries to provide financial help where it’s really needed. Your career and progression Our graduates will follow careers in a wide range of health and social care settings in the statutory, voluntary or private sectors and public health, although some opportunities may require further study, training and/or work experience beyond this degree. Possible roles could include: care manager, healthcare assistant and healthcare support worker, health educator, health scientist, welfare or housing association professional, practice manager, social work assistant, specialist practitioner, youth worker or youth justice worker.
