Course summary

The BSc (Hons) Applied Health and Wellbeing programme provides an inter-disciplinary, inter-professional and dynamic approach to learning that provides students with a framework for exploring key issues in contemporary public health and wellbeing. In addition to consideration of different theoretical perspectives, alongside the application of theory to current public health, physical activity and exercise challenges, students have the opportunity to tailor their learning to fit specific career interests through a range of optional modules in the second and third year of study, build their confidence and acquire specialist skills sought by employers, for example through sector specific data skills with a focus on analysis, and therapeutic interventions. Students will explore and critically evaluate a range of issues that define the current health scene, with a specific focus on factors related to wellbeing. These will cover varied and relevant topics, including: positive mental health and wellbeing through counselling skills, music therapy, health sociology, public health, health promotion, sport and wellbeing, health and social care management and health inequalities. England’s Health and Care Act (2022) aspires to focus on health promotion, illness prevention and reducing inequalities to support the nation’s recovery post pandemic. This programme of study places graduates in a strong position to support health and wellbeing from a broad range of roles who support children, young people, and adults at different phases of the human lifespan. A specific focus of the programme is the applied nature of the course in two distinct ways. Firstly, placement opportunities at each level of learning are integrated into the programme and provide a range of relevant real-world experience. Secondly, optional modules will be offered that support graduate employment, and will include graduate attributes, support for CV writing and interview practice. Graduates go on to a wide range of careers in health and wellbeing.
