Do you want to develop the core skills and technical knowledge needed to pursue a successful career as a building surveyor? Our Building Surveying degree has been designed and developed in consultation with industry representatives to meet the increasing employment needs within the construction and the built environment sector. This degree has been designed to develop the skills and knowledge you'll need for a career in building surveying, including management, building pathology, law and economics for the built environment. You’ll study the core principles of building surveying including construction technologies, building mycology, associated defects, and sustainability. You’ll also develop the fundamental skills you’ll need to conduct structural surveys, the ability to identify and address issues in refurbishment projects and the restoration of historic and non-historic buildings. We’ll help you to develop knowledge to advise clients about the design, construction, maintenance and repair of buildings, while considering the latest developments in the industry. You'll have the opportunity to attend site visits and complete employer projects enabling you to develop your employability skills and build contacts in the sector. By the time you graduate you’ll be prepared to tackle the challenges of assessing and maintaining buildings, implementing sustainable practices, producing technical details of building elements and contributing to the preservation of our built heritage. Graduate Opportunities You’ll graduate ready for a career within the construction sector as a building surveyor working for contracting organisations, project management consultancies or client-side organisations. You could also explore other roles in the sector, such as planning and development surveyor, surveying technician, buildings inspector, building control or architect, some of which may require additional study. Alternatively, you may choose to pursue postgraduate study in your chosen field within construction and the built environment.
