Course summary
This programme is ideal if you have an interest and experience in coaching, instructing or teaching sport and physical education (PE). You will study the science behind sporting activity and develop the skills and knowledge needed for careers in the rapidly expanding coaching and fitness industries. You will visit the University of St Mark & St John and University of Exeter labs. Also, you use Exeter College’s Central Fitness gym, the brand new sports hall and the Exwick Sports Hub Campus and fitness labs. The broad perspective of the programme opens up opportunities for employment at higher supervisor/lower management levels within sports centres, health and fitness clubs, in sports development, as personal trainers or in the wider areas of PE such as teaching, advising or coordinating. You can progress directly on to the third year of a number of related Bachelor of Science/Arts Honours (BSc/BA Hons) degree programmes at the University of St Mark and St John. Currently, these options include strength and conditioning, sports coaching, sport and exercise science and sports development. A number of students have gone on to PGCE teacher training courses following this progression. Students have entered the teaching and coaching professions, as well as sports development and sports management and administration roles. Former students include an Exeter Chiefs RFC conditioning coach, Exeter Chiefs RFC video analyst, a number of Exeter College lecturers, Sports Academy strength and conditioning coach and a number of personal trainers and business owners.
