This course offers you the opportunity to explore your specialist making and design skills from an industry focused perspective. As an artist or designer with an already established portfolio you will be focusing on developing your technical and practical skills via live projects and self-direct practice. You will be encouraged to seek out and discover new opportunities to help you make links within your specialist field. The course will allow you to undertake the role of technician / curator for future exhibitions, explore arts funding schemes and identify projects and other opportunities for self-promotion through external links. This will help you build a career path of self-employment and advancement for a future in the creative industries. Your own understanding of the role of artist, designer and/or maker will be key to this development with a hands-on and practical approach to the exhibition of your own work and that of others in a variety of contexts. The first year of the course will include core units of Professional Development, Contextual Studies, Individual Externally Set Pearson Project and, Techniques and Practices. A further 4 units may include, Media Practices, Material Practices, Art and Craft Production alongside a specialist unit in Communication in Art and Design with a specific focus on communicating to an audience. Progression route to HND with a planned content of core units in Professional Practice and Applied Practice which is a Pearson Set Collaborative Project. A further 4 units including Advance Arts Practice Studies, Art Direction, Material Selection and Specification and, Creative Entrepreneurship.
