Are you passionate about educating people about the role that nutrition can play in fuelling the body and preventing diseases? Population weight levels, eating and exercise habits are constantly changing. As they do, the health implications are becoming more apparent. Develop the skills and experience to help people live healthier lifestyles with our Exercise, Health and Nutrition degree. You'll study the role that exercise and nutrition play in the maintenance of good health and the prevention of disease. You'll get a thorough and theoretical grounding in how exercise and nutrition influence health – positively and negatively – as well as developing the practical skills to improve people's exercise habits and nutrition. We'll explore anatomy and physiology of the body alongside the psychology and sociology of exercise and health behaviours. You'll gain the confidence to effectively communicate and promote health issues and you'll get the opportunity to study for additional professional qualifications. These include gym-based instructor and personal training fitness qualifications, as well as an Exercise Referral qualification which will allow you to register on to Level 3 of the Register for Exercise Professionals (REPs). We've also partially mapped the course content to the core competency requirements for registration as an Associate Nutritionist with the Association for Nutrition (AfN). Putting theory into practice, you'll complete two professional work placements as part of your degree and you'll have the opportunity to study abroad at one of our international partner universities. Placement opportunities We are one of only a few UK universities to build professional work placements into every degree. You'll complete two professional work placements, which will give you the chance to graduate with up to three months' professional work experience without having to take a sandwich year out. You'll graduate with at least 11 weeks' professional experience thanks to the two professional placements included in your degree. You could complete your placements in the UK or abroad. Recent students have worked on HIV- awareness projects for international charities in countries such as Rwanda, Cameroon, Uganda and Kenya. Graduate opportunities You'll be well-prepared for a range of careers in public health, health promotion in the NHS or local authorities, and any roles in the sport, fitness and leisure industries that focus on nutrition and weight management. A strength of this degree is its diversity – our students have found employment in all three areas: health promotion, nutrition advisors, exercise referral specialists, personal trainers, teaching and sports coaches.
The number of student respondents and response rates can be important in interpreting the data. For further information, see the Discover Uni website.
