Course summary

The role of a traditional actuary is changing. Organisations require actuarial professionals with the analytical and statistical skills needed to analyse the large sets of data that they are being presented in today’s data-driven world. You should study this programme if you are seeking to pursue or further your actuarial professional qualification, while at the same time future-proofing your skills. Programme Highlights

Career Outcomes With this qualification, you can go beyond traditional actuarial roles such as insurance and pensions. You will be able to work across a variety of industries, including health, investment banking and climate risk.

Modules

Semester One - Compulsory Modules Actuarial Risk Management 1 Machine Learning with Python Elective Modules (choose two from): Foundations of Mathematics and Statistics Storing, Manipulating and Visualising Data Survival Models Topics in Scientific Computing Semester Two - Compulsory Modules Actuarial Risk Management 2 Time Series for Business Elective Modules (choose two from): Advanced Machine Learning Computational Statistics with R Financial Data Analytics Financial Engineering Mathematical Tools for Asset and Liability Management Neural Networks and Deep Learning Students will also undertake an Actuarial Science and Data Analytics Dissertation.

Assessment method

You will be assessed by a mixture of formal examinations and coursework in your taught modules. You will undertake more self-directed work in completing your final Actuarial Science and Data Analytics Project.

Entry requirements

A 2:1 or above at undergraduate level in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, econometrics, mathematical economics, finance, or engineering. Applicants with unrelated degrees will be considered if there is evidence of equivalent content in their academic or professional background.
