Course summary

OVERVIEW Creative storytelling is the core of the BA (Hons) Film and Moving Image Production, around which a multi-disciplinary student experience revolves. Story offers a catalyst for social and political change; the stories we tell about the world and the possible worlds we create are best placed to explore the human condition and its impact on how we think, act and conceive of ourselves. YEAR 0 This course includes a Year 0, which promotes developing practical, technical and creative skills and confidence. Building on your prior experience, you will be introduced to some of our workshops to assist your skill development, with an increasing emphasis on professional standards and independent study. The course places emphasis on your personal commitment to study, while supporting you in your progression. KEY FEATURES

  • Develop your storytelling skills and your fundamental creative craft skills such as producing, script development, direction, cinematography, sound design and editing
  • Learn industry standard approaches to the filmmaking process including pre-production, production and post-production
  • Work in production teams on a range of practical projects including visual narrative, drama adaptation, sound design and production design
  • Reflect on the impact of your creative, technical, and practical decision making on your production, its audience and relationship to wider contemporary debates
  • Rigorously test ideas and concepts, take creative risks and experiment with text, image, sound and narrative structures as you develop creative solutions to project briefs
  • Explore your own creative practice and learn other methodologies in order to place your work in a wider critical context
  • Gain in-depth knowledge of legal, moral and ethical standards as they impact production
  • Undertake essential training via BAFTA albert in climate science and sustainable production
  • Evaluate your learning, skills acquisition and creative production and use your reflection to plan further learning and development as you progress through the course
DIPLOMA IN CREATIVE COMPUTING The year-long Diploma in Creative Computing year takes place between Year 2 and 3 of the course and is designed to introduce you to creative computing and gain an understanding of how you can use coding skills to advance and complement your creative practice. You do not need any prior experience of coding to participate, just a curiosity about creative computing and a desire to push your own practice digitally. YOUR FUTURE The final year provides opportunities to write, produce and/or direct an original short film and submit it for selection for a special industry screening. The course is ScreenSkills Select accredited, ensuring the curriculum offers a rigorous grounding not only for entry into, but to rapidly progress your career in the Film, High End Television (HETV) and commercial creative industries. Learning in an environment designed to reflect contemporary industry practices will foster a detailed awareness of the opportunities the skills, knowledge and experience the contemporary industries need. Assessment method

The University assesses you through the coursework you produce as you complete each unit. Each unit will require you to present a portfolio of work which may include finished pieces of work, written work, your research, and a reflective journal which allows you to evaluate your learning and highlight your strengths and areas for further development.
