Course summary
The Higher National Diploma in Healthcare Professions’ in England with HTQ status has been developed in conjunction with the NHS and independent sector employers, and education providers who are currently using HND’s to educate and train their workforce. As a level 5 qualification it meets Health Education England's assistant practitioner framework requirements. This qualification has been designed for those working as or seeking to become trainee assistant practitioners and, ultimately assistant practitioners in health and social care, and to pursue or advance their career in health care practice or related fields. Once you have studied the level 5 Higher National Diploma, you could develop your careers in health care by entering employment, committing to continuing professional development or going to university. What are Higher Technical Qualifications: These qualifications have been developed by awarding bodies, who have worked with employers and businesses to make sure that students get the specific training, knowledge, and skills they need for their chosen career.

Modules
You will study a range of units that will enable you to progress successfully into further study or the world of work. This will also include independent skills, interpersonal skills, clinical practice skill and research and evaluation skills. Some of the units you will study include: - Law, Policy and Ethical Practice - Demonstrating Professional Principles and Values in Health and Social Care Practice, - Promoting physical and mental health and emotional wellbeing. - Planning care in practice - End of Life care planning and support - Planning care in practice.
Assessment method
You will be assessed through assignment work and practical experience. The assignments will be completed using a variety of methods. Whilst on placement you will complete a Practice Learning, Assessment and Development Portfolio.

To work as a teacher at a state school in England or Wales, you will need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). This is offered on this course for the following level:

Applicants applying for this course will require a DBS certificate.
Interview
All applicants are required to attend an interview and will be notified of the date and time via email, a text reminder is also sent the day before the interview. Applicants applying from outside the West Midlands alternative interview arrangements can be made for you, but we strongly encourage all prospective applicants come along to view Solihull College and University Centre’s facilities and meet the teaching teams. As part of your interview and possibly your offer you will be required to provide your original certificates, including GCSE’s or equivalents.
English language requirements
Students who are non-native English speakers, or who have not studied the final two years of school in English, but can demonstrate capability in English at a standard commensurate to IELTS 6.0, with a minimum of 5.5 being awarded on individual sections for a level 4, 5 or 6 qualification, will be considered as eligible to apply for the programme/course.

Additional fee information
Applicants will need a satisfactory enhanced DBS for this, which will incur additional costs. Student’s may also wish to purchase key texts and there may be external visit opportunities that will also incur additional costs. Other costs include photocopying and printing and depending on the direction and ambition of your work. We suggest budgeting approximately £250-£300 in the first year.
