Modules
Mandatory modules: Independent Research Project, Case Studies, Environmental Diagnosis, Environmental Management.
Assessment method
Written examinations test understanding of the principles and concepts taught in the modules and case studies, and the ability to integrate and apply them to environmental diagnosis and management. Assessment of module work and practical computing, laboratory and fieldwork evaluates critical understanding of the environmental science taught, and mastery of producing quality assured data, and its analysis, interpretation, presentation and reporting. Assessment also reflects the ability to work independently and in teams, and to learn during study visits. Assessment of research projects is based on the ability to manage and report on an original piece of independent scientific work. All assessed work has significant confidential written and verbal feedback.

Entry requirements
2:2 Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Ecology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Geography, Geology Marine or Physical Science. Normally we require a UK 2:2 (Honours) or equivalent in relevant subjects. Vocational and professional experience within the environmental sector is desirable, but not essential. Applicants with other qualifications, including MSc and PhD degrees and /or significant relevant professional experience and training, should contact the Course Director prior to making an application. Professional experience in any agency involved in development and environment issues will also be considered. Applicants are required to submit a CV as part of their application. Applicants meeting the entry requirements are invited to view the teaching and research facilities utilised within the Department and elsewhere on campus. A successful applicant will usually have the following qualities: High motivation and initiative Relevant academic and vocational experience Good ICT skills Relevant experience of fieldwork and laboratory techniques. English language requirements: IELTS 6.5 overall with a minimum of 5.5 in all other subscores.

Additional fee information
These tuition fees apply to students enrolled on a full-time basis. Students studying on the standard part-time course structure over two years are charged 50% of the full-time applicable fee for each study year.
All postgraduate fees are subject to inflationary increases. This means that the overall cost of studying the course via part-time mode is slightly higher than studying it full-time in one year. Royal Holloway's policy is that any increases in fees will not exceed 5% for continuing students. For further information, please see our terms and conditions. Please note that for research courses, we adopt the minimum fee level recommended by the UK Research Councils for the Home tuition fee. Each year, the fee level is adjusted in line with inflation (currently, the measure used is the Treasury GDP deflator). Fees displayed here are therefore subject to change and are usually confirmed in the spring of the year of entry. The UK Government has confirmed that EU nationals are no longer eligible to pay the same fees as UK students, nor be eligible for funding from the Student Loans Company. This means you will be classified as an international student. At Royal Holloway, we wish to support those students affected by this change in status through this transition. For eligible EU students starting their course with us in September 2023, we will award a fee reduction scholarship equivalent to 30% of the difference between the UK and international fee for your course.
