Prepare yourself for an exciting career in music production and sound engineering. We’ll support you in developing the practical skills and industry knowledge required to succeed in the modern music and sound industry. You will gain a deep understanding of working in a studio environment, including analysis skills, mixing and mastering, acoustics, psychoacoustics, music technology and much more, providing you with an advanced skill set in sound engineering and music production techniques. You will leave with advanced practical and theoretical knowledge of studio recording, music production and project management techniques, developing essential grounding in the core principles vital for a successful career in music production and sound engineering. This course is taught by dBs and awarded by Falmouth University.
Modules
Focusing on studio production, you’ll build the real-world skills, theoretical knowledge and commercial experience needed to thrive in the world of audio engineering. You will also have access to a substantial guest lecture programme, offering you the opportunity to learn from and connect with a range of experienced professional practitioners. Modules could include: Year one You’ll explore industry-standard equipment and techniques used in recording studios. You’ll study key sonic principles and processes surrounding the production and mixing of music, and begin preparing to apply for work experience within the industry. Modules ● Studio Practice ● Music Production ● Product Analysis ● Mixing ● Creative Recording Techniques ● Industry Foundations Year two You'll learn about mastering and refine your production skills, moving beyond traditional recording and mixing techniques into new territories such as immersive audio. You’ll also develop your academic skills and industry connections through working on your own research and commercial projects. Modules ● Advanced Music Production ● Immersive Audio ● Advanced Mixing & Mastering ● Applied Acoustics ● Industry Practice ● Research Practice Year three You’ll prepare for industry or further study by consolidating your professional portfolio, developing production tools and exploring opportunities for innovation in audio production. You’ll complete a final research project, where you’ll turn in-depth research into an extended piece of writing or production project that can provide a basis for progressing into industry or on to postgraduate study. If English is not your first language, you will need to demonstrate English language skills that are sufficiently developed for successful completion of your studies. We accept a range of recognised English language qualifications that are equivalent to the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic minimum score of 6.0 overall, with a minimum of 5.5 in Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening.
