TEF Silver
University of Brighton has opted into the TEF and received a Silver award.
This degree develops your understanding of language as a social and a psychological phenomenon. The wide range of option modules allow for a number of degree pathways. You may choose a theoretical route with options that deepen your understanding of your two subject areas; or should you have a more creative edge, you might tailor your degree by taking more practice-based modules, such as journalism or creative writing. The English language strand of the degree provides you with an understanding of the fundamentals of English and its historical development, examining how language shapes society and society shapes language. The linguistics strand encourages you to explore language from a scientific perspective and will introduce you to the main subdisciplines within the field. There is the opportunity to spend your third year abroad as part of the Erasmus programme.

Additional fee information
The fees listed here are for full-time courses beginning in the academic year 2021-22.
Further tuition fees are payable for each subsequent year of study and are subject to an annual increase of no more than 5% or RPI (whichever is the greater). The annual increase for UK/EU students, who are subject to regulated fees, will increase no more than the statutory maximum fee.
The tuition fee you have to pay depends on a number of factors including the kind of course you take, and whether you study full-time or part-time. If you are studying part-time you will normally be charged on a pro rata basis depending on the number of modules you take. If your course includes a sandwich year option you will pay a reduced fee during this year; £1,330 for home students and £2,100 for international students.
