Course summary

The UAL Level 4 Professional Diploma in Creative Enterprise is a course designed for highly skilled creative individuals looking to develop their entrepreneurial skills ahead of venturing into self employment and running a creative business. The intention of the qualification is to give students the opportunity to develop their creative ideas and initiate business ventures. The Professional Diploma has been designed to provide students with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to develop their careers as entrepreneurs. This qualification will provide students with an opportunity to cultivate their employability by developing their creative enterprise skills, expanding their industry contact base while developing their start-up projects and professional practice. Content The course comprises 3 sequential units. Unit 1 - The Creative Entrepreneur - this unit will enable students to:

  • analyse business models and evaluate how creative enterprises are created, realised and managed to develop their own profile and brand
  • assess and draw conclusions from policies that directly influence the enterprise’s chosen industry
  • assess and formulate budgetary and resource requirements for a creative enterprise
  • analyse and review legal and regulatory.
Unit 2 - The Creative Practitioner - this unit will enable students to:
  • define and modify creative enterprise ideas through practical research and development
  • distinguish and contextualise enterprise ambitions within related contemporary practice
  • manage self and display professional interpersonal and communication skills when working with others in creative and business situations
  • critically evaluate the effectiveness of their creative enterprise model and how it fits with their personal professional development ambitions.
Unit 3 -The Creative Enterprise - this unit will enable students to:
  • use research to inform a business plan model
  • plan, organise and develop a business plan ensuring all budgetary, branding, legal, marketing and health and safety requirements are specified
  • present a business plan exemplifying and appraising enterprise intentions
  • analyse the creative enterprise process, identifying areas of success and those for future improvement.
Assessment All assessment is by project and coursework - there are no exams. Units 1 and 2 are Pass/Fail and Unit 3 is graded: Pass, Merit or Distinction. Entry requirements An extensive portfolio of work and Level 3 qualifications, ideally a Merit grade or above at Level 3, or 2 relevant A levels, each at grade or above. A strong portfolio may be considered in lieu of relevant qualifications. Students will be encouraged to seek out creative self-employed opportunities throughout the course and undertake live briefs to develop an understanding of the world of work within the creative industries.

Assessment method

All assessment is by project and coursework - there are no exams. Units 1 and 2 are Pass/Fail and Unit 3 is graded: Pass, Merit or Distinction.
