If so, a Pearson BTEC Higher National Certificate in Civil Engineering will help you get there. This course at UCNL will give you an understanding of the technologies and processes of civil engineering with their essential involvement in the construction and maintenance of the infrastructure, and key technologies that apply to the crucial support of our societies. All teaching staff have extensive industrial experience, and are highly qualified and enthusiastic professionals. Upon completion of your Higher National Certificate in Civil Engineering you will have developed a wider knowledge of the civil engineering principles which will prepare you for employment opportunities in the civil engineering industry or take further qualifications to further your knowledge and understanding of the industry. This course is particularly relevant to people already working in or looking to develop a career within it. Further the course provides a range of skills relevant across a variety of different professions. People who have completed this course have gone on to work in areas of construction including: • Site Engineering Technician • Structural Engineering • Design Civil Engineering If you wish to continue studying beyond this course, it will provide you with a strong academic basis to do so. Course progression routes may include The HNC course is designed to provide progression onto a BTEC Higher National Diploma (HND) top-up or a higher apprenticeship top-up. This will also then offer a route to study a top-up degree in civil and structural engineering or a related discipline as well as progression to professional body membership.

Assessment method

The primary way of delivering this course is on campus. On campus teaching includes a combination of lectures, small group seminars, workshops, guest lectures, field trips and one-to-one discussions with your tutor. The academic year is 30 weeks in duration with students expected to attend two days a week on a full-time programme and one day a week on a part-time programme. Students will receive 14 hours of teaching per week when attending on a full-time course and 7 hours part time. Additional one-to-one meetings with tutors will provide further support.
