Course summary

This degree is suitable for students with a foundation degree or HND in a relevant subject who would like to gain a full honours degree. Work based experience is an essential feature of this course, which requires one day per week to be spent in an Early Years setting. Suitable part time employment within a 0–8 years setting, on days of the week that a student is not required to be in college, may be accepted.

Modules

  • The Reflective Practitioner - The importance of students developing knowledge and understanding of themselves through the use of reflective practice.Issues relating to personal and professional development will also be covered.
  • Developing the Learning Experience – Historical, theoretical and international perspectives and influences on Early Years Pedagogy. It also examines creative expression, discovery in learning and children’s powers of innovation, thinking and problem solving through creative processes and teaching approaches.
  • Early Intervention and Support – The impact of relationships on the child’s physical, social and emotional development and key government priorities and strategies concerning child health.
  • Professional Issues – Examining issues relating to quality assurance, management, multi agency working and the professional development of the Early Years workforce.
* Dissertation – This will involve the completion of a research project of student’s choice.
