Course summary

The aim of Pearson BTEC Higher Nationals in Construction Management for England is to develop students as professional, self-reflecting individuals who can meet the needs of employers in the construction sector and adapt to a constantly changing world. The variety of units undertaken will prepare you to undertake project and site management. The purpose of the qualification is to broaden access to higher education and improve career prospects within the construction sector. Students will develop a range of construction knowledge linked to practical skills acquired through research, directed study, independent study, and workplace scenarios. You will explore the techniques used to set up controls and conduct initial surveys, including communication of results and methods of setting out the built environment. Students will be able to identify and analyse the sources of error and mitigation techniques used in common aspects of surveying. In addition, you will develop the skills and techniques needed to manage both people and process aspects of working on a building site, to ensure the quality of work, safe working practices and the interactions of different trades. Each unit is worth 15 credits and over the course of the programme you will gain 120 credits. Two years part-time with one full day attendance per week, or one year full-time with two full day attendance per week. 6 hours for part-time course or 12 hours for full-time course. Career Options include: Construction engineer, construction site supervisor, quantity surveyor, construction site manager, projects manager, demolition construction manager. You can progress to a Level 5 HND, or onto further study at degree level including: BSc (Hons) in Construction Management BSc (Hons) in Construction Project Management BA and BSc (Hons) in Construction BSc (Hons) in Construction Engineering Management For further information please contact us by visiting the contact page on the college website. You will be assessed using a range of methods including written assignments, reports, and presentations.

Qualification requirements

All applications will be considered on individual merit. However, offers will usually be based on: 1. BTEC Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject 2. Other related Level 3 qualifications 3. Normally 4 GCSEs at grade C or above (or numeric score of 4/5 under newly reformed GCSE grading), including Maths and English 4. An Access to Higher Education Diploma in a relevant area 5. Related work experience may be considered in place of formal qualifications
