Course summary
As of September 2023, this course will change from a Bachelor of Arts (BA) to a Bachelor of Science (BSc) to better reflect the quantitative and analytical nature of the course. There is no change to the course content. Economists are regarded as great problem solvers, highly analytical, numerate and able to make sense of large amounts of complex information. This degree will enhance your knowledge of economic theory, whilst developing the transferable skills that will prepare you for a great graduate career. This course achieved a 91% student satisfaction rating (National Student Survey, 2022). Our Economics with International Finance and Banking course uses the threshold concepts of economics to critically analyse decisions involving the participants, institutions and instruments of finance and banking. You will compare the different interpretations of contemporary economic issues and events and the lessons that can be drawn. We will enrol you, as an economics student, with The Society of Professional Economists (SPE). You will focus on applied Economics, training you to think like an economist from day one. You will learn about the important role of finance and banking in affecting investment and growth and develop the crucial tools and techniques of financial analysis, investment and portfolio management. During your second year you'll have a variety of unique opportunities to get involved in such as studying abroad, enterprise project or an internship. You'll also have the opportunity to take part in business challenges, volunteer opportunities and guest lectures from business leaders throughout the year. As an Economics student, you’ll have access to our unique Business Lab facility. With double-screen workstations, the room gives you a simulated experience of working in the fast-moving world of shares and trading. You can access sophisticated analysis tools and Bloomberg Terminal data on worldwide financial markets. Nottingham Business School at NTU is EQUIS and AACSB accredited and ranked in the Top 25 in the UK for Economics according to the Guardian University Guide 2022. We are one of only six UK business schools recognised as a PRME Champion, and held up as an exemplar by the United Nations Principles of Responsible Management Education (PRME). NBS is also recognised by the Small Business Charter, as we play an effective role in supporting small businesses, local economies and student entrepreneurship.
