Course summary

Our HND is a highly practical course with two pathways available in software development and computer networks. A nationally recognised Level 5 computing qualification, the HND is ideal for those who have started, or are planning to move into a career in the computing and digital industry, or who wish to progress onto the final year of a degree programme. The software development pathway will give you a comprehensive understanding of database design using the Oracle DBMS and applications development using a range of platforms and technologies, including games development using the Unity/Unreal gaming engines. The computer networks pathway will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of network design and security, with aspects of the CISCO CCNA qualification embedded within the curriculum. The units of study reflect the latest technology innovations, and current employment opportunities within the software development and network technology industries, such as mobile app development, database design, development and management, cloud computing and network security. The course also aims to develop skills such as communication literacy, critical thinking, analysis, reasoning and interpretation, which are crucial for gaining employment and developing academic competence. Assessment method

The skills and knowledge that you will develop as part of the course are assessed by a variety of methods including written assignments, practical assessments, presentations, group work and exams. The course also aims to develop essential and transferrable employment skills such as communication and interpersonal skills, leadership and the dynamics of working with others in teams. Independent study and research is essential to achievement on the course to supplement and consolidate learning and to broaden knowledge and understanding.

GCSE Maths – grade C/4 GCSE English Language– grade C/4 Functional skill Level 2 Maths and English No international applications. Also required: Applications to all FT UG must be made through UCAS. If you only wish to apply to this college, please contact us and we will process your UCAS application. Related work experience will be considered for mature applicants. All applicants will be required to sit an initial assessment and attend an interview, and may be required to sit a written exam. Points of entry: Year 1 (HNC) and Year 3.
