Are you ready to embark on an exciting journey into the world of criminology? Join our BA Criminology course to explore crime, harm, victimization, and crime control. You will develop critical thinking and research skills for your career. Learn from experienced criminologists who are leaders in their fields. Gain an understanding of areas of crime and justice with insights from sociology, law, social policy, psychology, politics, history, and media studies. For example, you'll examine the social and legal construction of ‘crime’ and consider its causes, as well as thinking about how societies should respond to harmful behaviours. With a wide range of optional modules, you can tailor your degree to your interests and career aspirations. You can choose to learn about punishment, victimology, or the crimes and harms of the powerful. Study abroad in locations such as the Netherlands, Singapore, or the USA to gain a global perspective. Take part in the placements scheme for hands-on experience, putting your knowledge to the test in the real world. A degree in criminology can provide a solid foundation for a number of careers. Modules

In the first year, your core modules will introduce ways of understanding and investigating contemporary societies, defining, measuring and explaining crime, and thinking critically about the institutions that make up the criminal justice system. Year two focuses on how criminologists are grappling with problems of crime and justice emerging in the 21st century. We will develop your understanding of the theoretical and methodological foundations of criminology. Year three provides the opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge through researching for and writing a dissertation on a topic of your choice. There will also be a choice of optional modules allowing you to specialise in your areas of interest.
