Course summary

How is crime defined and who are criminals? What causes crime and how should societies respond to it? You will analyse and debate questions like this on our BA Criminology, which is taught by criminologists who draw on their research experience at the cutting-edge of the discipline. You will explore crime, victimisation and crime control, drawing on insights from social policy, sociology, law, psychology, politics, history, and the media. This will develop your critical thinking and research skills and will give you a broad understanding of theoretical perspectives on crime and justice. You can tailor your degree to your interests and career goals through optional modules that examine subjects like restorative justice, crime and the media, victimology, and crimes and harms of the powerful. You can also enhance your CV by studying abroad at a partner institution in locations like the Netherlands, Singapore or the USA. You will graduate with a strong academic foundation and the transferable skills and confidence you need to stand out to employers as you start your career.
