Course summary

The course covers computing fundamentals in areas including databases, software design and development, cyber security and the Internet of Things, and also includes a work placement to enhance your employability. It culminates in a collaborative project and a practical, independent initiative, where you will be encouraged to showcase your skills by working with businesses and other organisations. In the past, for example, Applied Computing students have partnered with Visit Somerset to create websites for a host of tourism-related businesses. You will also get the chance to undertake relevant day trips and longer residential visits at an additional expense. UCW Applied Computing students recently visited Florida to tour NASA’s Kennedy Space Centre and Universal’s Digital Animation and Visual Effects School. The course is taught at our Knightstone Campus and you will also be able to take advantage of the technology suites in our new University Centre in the redeveloped Winter Gardens, which is also in the centre of Weston.
